Welcome to Sycamore tree Class! We hope you have all had a fantastic Christmas break and enjoyed spending time with your families and friends and are ready for 2024. We can't wait to see you and to get started on another exciting term together! Please find some useful information on this page about the term ahead and about some of the exciting things we will be learning about. Also attached at the bottom of the page is our class welcome letter and termly overview of curriculum subjects. 

We also try hard to update our class Twitter feed regularly with photos and tweets of things we have been getting up to in class!

If for whatever reason you have any questions or queries about the term ahead, then please do not hesitate to contact me through the school office or speak to me on the gate. Curriculum Information

Year 1 will begin the term by revisiting Place Value. We will move on to consolidating our addition and subtraction knowledge, we will be focusing on number vaules up to and beyond 20. Year 2 will begin the term by looking at Money. They will quickly move onto Multiplication and Division, we will be focusing on our multiples of 2, 5 and 10. 



In English, the children will use a variety of different stimulus throughout the term to engage and inspire their writing. They will begin the term by looking at the story of the Vlad and The Great Fire of London. The children will cover a range of writing genres such as: a story narrative and poetry. Children will also focus on Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar and some will carry on with their RWI Phonics Sounds. A big focus for writing this term will be to write correctly punctuated sentences and use a variety of conjunctions to add detail.



This term the children will be learning about materials.  First, they will be identifying and naming a variety of different materials. They will investigate the differnt properties of materials and test which material is best for different purposes.




The children will be leanring all about The Great Fire of London. During this topic, the children will study in depth about the history of what happened during the time of the fire and the events that followed on after.They will be using timelines,the internet, books and historical artefacts to help them answer questions. 



The children will be using maps, atlases and globes to locate Australia and the U.K.  From their findings, they will discuss the question - "What are the differences and the similarities between the Uk and Australia" using their knowlege to help them form answers.



Useful Information

Homework - This term, homework will be sent home on a Friday at the end of each week and is to be returned to school the following Wednesday. If you require any help or support with this, please just ask. Thanks for your support. 

PE - This term, our PE is on a Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday is our indoor session and Thursday is our outdoor session. As in previous years, children can come to school in their PE kits. Please ensre children are in their correct kit as last year, clothing such as football shirts and other brightly coloured shirts started to be worn in some classes. It is also important children have appropriate footwear and a warm, hooded jacket or coat to keep them warm in colder weather.
