Prospective Reception Parents September 2026
Reception Admissions September 2026
We are getting ready to show prospective families around ready for their child starting in reception in September 2026. We believe that a school should be viewed with the most important people in it - the children - as there is nothing better than seeing them at work and at play in their learning environments. With this in mind, we will be holding two open events on Wednesday 15th October at 2pm and on Tuesday 4th November at 9.15am. However, we do acknowledge that families are busy with work commitments during the day so we will also hold a later event on Wednesday 1st October starting at 5pm.
All of the events will give parents the opportunity to listen to a presentation from the Headteacher who will talk passionately about our wonderful school, as well as to have a guided tour of the school and the Reception provision. The tours during the day will be led, not only by a senior leader, but also by our prestigious Year 6 House and Vice Captains. It's always best to hear the views from those that matter most!
Although there are three scheduled formal open events, myself and senior leaders are also happy to show families around if you are unable to make the set dates. Please just contact the school office to make an appointment.
Parents have until the 15th January 2026 to submit their primary school choices. Please click the link to find out more: https://www.warrington.gov.uk/primary-school-admissions
We recognise that choosing a school place for your child is a very important decision for you to make and can be quite daunting for many parents. We would encourage all families to attend the open events of schools in their local area to get a good feel for the school as well as to visit their website and to talk to other parents in the community whose children may attend some of the schools. All of this will give you a head start on making the right choice for you and your child.
After the open events:
Once you have visited your chosen schools, parents must then follow the school's admission policy procedures and apply via the Warrington's primary school admissions form. If you select Great Sankey Primary and you receive notification in the spring term that the place is offered to you, you will be invited back into school to meet with the staff. Early Years staff will also make contact to visit your child in their nursery or pre-school setting or at home during summer term. These meetings then inform our class structures ready for September.
During June / July, the children are invited into school to experience a morning or afternoon session with their class teacher and new friends. In September, a further short period of transition is built in where the children will attend school part-time for either morning or afternoon sessions for the first few days. Throughout this period, staff liaise with families to ensure a smooth and happy transition. In addition to this, we hold a further parent meeting in October as well as parents' evenings throughout the year and Stay and Play sessions where you are invited into your child's classroom to watch your child learning.
